Mercury fined $27.6mn for charging illegal broking fees

Los Angeles-headquartered carrier Mercury has been fined $27.6mn for collecting illegal broking fees from auto insurance customers. 

The California Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled against the carrier, stating it must repay $150 for each violation that took place between 1999 and 2004.
