The total cost of accounting-related securities class action lawsuits more than tripled year on year in 2020 to $3.5bn, according to Cornerstone Research.

In a report published on Wednesday, the research firm found that accounting allegations were present in more than 30% of all federal securities class action filings last year, and made up 84% of total settlement dollars.
