Auto insurers made up five out of the seven reported carrier impairments during 2020, according to AM Best.

In a note on the market segment, the ratings agency said that in most cases, the failure of the companies arose from a combination of poor strategic direction, weak operations, internal controls weaknesses, or underpricing or under-reserving.
