Progressive acquisition of Protective approved by Indiana Department of Insurance

The Indiana Department of Insurance has approved the sale of Protective Insurance Corporation to Progressive, the largest commercial auto insurer in the US, putting the $338mn deal on track to be completed on June 1.

The transaction adds around $547mn of gross written premiums to Progressive’s $5.6bn commercial auto book.

Protective, previously known as Baldwin & Lyons, mainly focuses on writing trucking and workers' compensation policies.
