S&P upgrades Validus Re to A+, deems reinsurer ‘core’ to AIG

Standard & Poor’s has upgraded the issuer and financial strength ratings of Validus Re to A+, after revising its view of the reinsurer’s strategic importance to corporate parent AIG.

In an announcement disclosing the upgrade, S&P said it now considered the reinsurer’s operations to be “core” to AIG’s business, revising an earlier held view that Validus had been “highly strategically important”.
