James River doubles Q2 underwriting gain as reserves turn favorable

Higher earned premiums and better prior-year loss experience helped James River double underwriting profits in the second quarter to almost $18mn.

The Bermuda-based carrier reported operating earnings of $0.54/share on Wednesday evening, ahead of the $0.52/share analyst estimate, but lower than the $0.56/share
