This weekend, Hurricane Ida crossed over Louisiana as a Category 4 hurricane. Historically, whenever a hurricane started approaching the mainland, there would be frenzied discussions in the marketplace on potential exposure for primaries, reinsurers, and retro providers. This was fueled by the fact there were various reinsurance companies in existence with different market shares and penetration.

However, over the past several years, these discussions have become much more subdued as the reinsurance marketplace continues to be consolidated away.
