A powerful earthquake has struck near the Mexican beach resort of Acapulco, causing damage to buildings and sending tremors as far as Mexico City, 230 miles away.

The magnitude 7 quake struck in the south west of the country, causing residents and hotel guests to rush out into the streets, and inflicting damage to buildings and power infrastructure.
