Tesla ordered to pay $137mn in racial discrimination case

A federal jury has ordered Tesla to pay $130mn in punitive damages and $6.9mn in emotional damages over claims that a former African American contractor was subjected to racial discrimination at work.

The plaintiff, Owen Diaz, who operated the elevator at one of Tesla’s factories from 2015 to 2016, claimed that he was called the N-word by other employees.
