Berkley underwriting profits soar in Q3 on higher earned premiums

Underwriting profits at specialty carrier WR Berkley (WRB) nearly doubled in the third quarter, boosted by a continued surge in earned premiums and continued core loss ratio improvement, along with a better expense ratio.

The Greenwich-based insurer said on Thursday it generated $1.32 in operating income per share, blowing past the $0.65 a share it earned a year ago, and well ahead of the $0.94
