Legal costs and nuclear verdicts have continued to soar across the country as plaintiffs' lawyers have more heavily relied on "reptile theory" as a legal strategy, according to insurance lawyers speaking on a litigation panel on Thursday.

"Reptile theory" consists of the playing on human primal fears of jurors’ own danger by plaintiffs' lawyers, speakers at the Insurance Information Institute’s Joint Forum in New York explained.
