US mutual Nationwide has hired Ashley Moffatt and John Posa as new excess and surplus (E&S) brokerage leaders.

The company appointed Moffatt as E&S brokerage primary casualty underwriting leader for its wholesale broking team and named Posa as leader of brokerage primary and excess casualty construction for its E&S specialty unit.

Before joining Nationwide, Moffatt had an extended career at Great American Insurance, where she worked for almost 15 years based in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The executive began her career at Great American in 2007 as an intern and since then she has held various roles, including associate, senior production underwriter and assistant vice president, her last position at the carrier.

Posa joins the US mutual after almost six years at Axis, where he served as senior vice president.

Prior to that role, the executive worked at Aspen as senior vice president for construction for over two years, and before that he was assistant underwriting director at Catlin from 2008 to 2014.

Commenting on Moffatt’s appointment, Tom Jurgens, senior vice president of E&S brokerage for Nationwide, said: “Ashley’s expertise and leadership will help E&S Brokerage continue to enhance its general liability, product manufacturing, and premises, hospitality and services classes of business.”

“As we continue to expand our expertise in complex and hard-to-place commercial risks with underwriting solutions not readily available in the standard market, Ashley will be a key player in helping us maintain our reputation for talented underwriters,” he added.

Commenting on Posa’s recruitment, Jurgens said: “John has a proven track record of successfully and profitably working with the nation’s top E&S wholesale brokers.”

“We are committed to building our strength in this specialized area with industry recognized talent, having John’s expertise will position us to further enhance our wholesale brokerage relationships in construction and help drive Nationwide to be an industry leader in this arena,” he added.

The two appointments follow a senior management revamp that Nationwide has executed at its E&S business in recent months.

Last October, the giant mutual appointed George Williams as COO for its E&S and specialty team, overseeing the business operations, claims, and Nationwide Indemnity.
