Kemper CEO says soaring inflation ‘materially’ contributed to $257mn U/W loss

The CEO of auto specialty writer Kemper, Joe Lacher, said on Monday evening that pandemic-driven inflationary pressures “not only remain but have intensified” and were a major contributor to the company posting its third major quarterly underwriting loss in a row.

Lacher was speaking to analysts shortly after his company disclosed its P&C division had swung to a $257mn underwriting loss in the quarter, on the heels of $215mn and $157mn underwriting losses in the second and third quarters.
