The Hartford says it is reacting to inflationary pressures in auto ‘on a weekly basis’

Executives at The Hartford told analysts on Friday they expect some erosion to the company’s core underwriting margins in personal lines this year, and that it is reacting to surging auto loss costs “on a weekly basis”. 

The Hartford’s management team spoke a day after the company reported fourth-quarter earnings in which commercial lines underwriting profits more than doubled to $387mn, but its personal lines underwriting gain tumbled to $45mn from $154mn the year before.
