Underwriting income at Canadian insurer Intact rose 45% to $C600mn ($475mn), benefitting from its acquisition of RSA’s Canadian, UK and international operations, even as its consolidated combined ratio rose 2.2 points in the quarter to 87.8%.

On Tuesday the company said it earned C$3.78 per share, a 19% increase from the C$3.18 it earned last year, helped by the increase in underwriting income to C$600mn from C$415mn last year.
