Arch U/W income more than doubles to $472mn off sharply lower catastrophes

Underwriting income at Arch Capital more than doubled to $472mn in the fourth quarter, as the Bermuda (re)insurer cut its cat loss bill and improved core underwriting margins.

On Wednesday, the company said it earned $1.27 in operating income per share, breezing past the $0.56 per share it earned in the fourth quarter of 2020, and well ahead of analysts’ $1.00-per-share
