AFG boosts operating profit by 77% as specialty NWP climbs 4.4%

American Financial Group’s (AFG) P&C segment’s operating profits jumped by 77% in the fourth quarter to a record $485mn, driven by higher year-over-year underwriting profit in the specialty casualty group and improved investment income.

Companywide operating earnings per share rose to $4.18 in the quarter, compared to analyst expectations of $2.98 per share.
