QBE’s North American underwriting loss shrinks to $53mn

QBE’s North American unit reported an underwriting loss for 2021 of $53mn, a 90% reduction on the prior year’s $521mn loss, as the carrier experienced lower adverse prior-accident-year claims development.

The division’s combined ratio was 102.9%, an improvement of 9.8 percentage points.

The North American segment reported an ex-cat claims ratio of 66.7%,
