Applied Underwriters has announced it will acquire Catlin Specialty Insurance Company from Axa XL for an undisclosed amount.

Applied said it was looking to bolster its operating capabilities with the deal in support of its strategic partners as the excess and surplus lines (E&S) market hardened.
