Dynamics in the upstream energy market are “perfectly balanced” in 2022, as ongoing profitable conditions compete against underwriter concerns about attritional loss activity and the potential deterioration of a major claim in 2019, according to a report from WTW.

The broker said upstream capacity reached another record level for 2022 of $9.4bn, up from $9.25bn in 2021, although WTW estimates that the maximum realistic capacity that can be accessed is $7.1bn,
