Consumer prices in March rose at an 8.5% annual pace, marking the fastest rise since 1981, reflecting the effects of the Ukraine-Russia war.

The annual pace compares with a 7.9% increase in February.

Meanwhile, the Consumer Price Index rose 1.2% in March from a month earlier, the Labor Department said Tuesday, a pickup from February’s 0.8%
