The Hartford swings to Q1 U/W profit with 90% CoR on strong commercial results

The Hartford returned to an underwriting profit as its combined ratio narrowed almost 14 points to 90.4% year-on-year, fueled by improvements at its commercial lines segment that outweighed a deterioration in the personal lines unit.

The carrier’s loss ratio declined 13.4 points to 59.1% as lower cats in the first quarter contributed 3.1% on the combined ratio compared to 7.2%
