The Hartford ‘not immune’ to higher-than-expected auto severity: Elliot

The Hartford has not been spared the impact of “elevated” loss costs in its personal auto book driven by higher-than-expected severity, particularly in physical damage, president Doug Elliot told analysts during the company’s Q1 earnings call.

“We have not been immune to supply chain and inflation pressures,” he said.

In response, the carrier has completed over 50 auto filings with an average rate increase of 6.2%
