The Peruvian government has launched a $4.5bn legal case against Spanish oil company Repsol over an oil spill in the Ventanilla district earlier this year, with several Mapfre entities also named in the case.

The civil lawsuit for compensation relating to damages from the oil spill was filed with the 27th civil court in Lima on Friday by the National Institute for the Defence of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property.
