Jab to acquire pet insurance unit of Fairfax for $1.4bn

The pet insurance business of investment firm Jab Holding Company has secured a partnership to acquire all of Fairfax Financial Holdings’ interests in Crum & Forster Pet Insurance Group and Pethealth Inc, including the worldwide operations.

Fairfax will receive $1.4bn for the transaction, consisting of $1.15bn in cash and $250mn in seller notes. As part of the strategic partnership, Fairfax will also invest $200mn in JCP V, Jab’s latest fund for investing in consumer-focused firms.
