Progressive CEO: Personal lines PIF declines for the first time in 20 years

In a letter to shareholders, Progressive CEO Tricia Griffith disclosed that personal lines policies in force declined 1% in the second quarter, marking the first quarterly year-over-year decrease for the segment in more than 20 years.

The CEO noted that the company is feeling "the impact of weather and inflation", and that Progressive saw inflationary pressure in the average cost to settle a claim.
