Markel increased its interest in several insurance companies during the second quarter while holding steady on several others amid broad volatility in US financial markets, SEC filings show.

The carrier boosted its position in The Hanover shares to 76,000 at the end of Q2 from 47,000 at the end of Q1, boosting the value of its stake to over $11mn.
