Six reinsurers face capital adequacy deterioration in case of 1-in-50 losses: S&P

Six reinsurers could experience a deterioration in their S&P Global Ratings capital adequacy if aggregate losses hit the one-in-50-year level in 2022, unless they take action to manage capital levels, the ratings firm has said.

Meanwhile, 15 reinsurers would sustain their S&P Global Ratings capital adequacy in the same scenario.

The agency’s latest report on the natural catastrophe strategies of the top 21 global reinsurers analysed how strategies on nat cat risk have diverged.
