Hurricane Ian to make landfall on Florida’s west coast ‘soon’ at 155 mph: NHC

Hurricane Ian is approaching Florida’s west coast with sustained winds of 155 mph, at Category 4 strength, although it is expected to weaken when it makes landfall this afternoon, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in its 14:00 ET update.

The storm is currently 25 miles from Fort Myers and about 50 miles southwest of Punta Gorda.

Hurricane Ian is currently moving north-northeast at 9 mph, unchanged from the speed recorded in NHC’s update today at 11:00 ET.
