Selective’s Q3 CoR falls to 96.8% as lower cats, reserve releases offset non-cat losses

Selective Insurance’s Q3 headline combined ratio improved 1.8 points to 96.8% as lower catastrophes and higher reserve releases offset higher severities from non-cat property losses.

The company posted $34.1mn in net cat losses, down from $76.3mn in Q3 2021, despite a $10mn net loss attributed to Hurricane Ian, which impacted Florida in late September and has so far generated over $7.6bn
