Munich Re pegs North Atlantic storm losses at $110bn with $65bn insured

The 2022 North Atlantic hurricane season was the third-most costly on record, with preliminary estimates suggesting overall losses from all storms amounted to $110bn, with $65bn of insured losses, according to Munich Re.

The reinsurer said this year’s season had produced fewer storms than was originally feared, but the “devastating damage” of Hurricane Ian contributed to substantial loss activity.
