If you go back and look at cataclysmic events in insurance, the role of reinsurance stands out. Starting in the 1980s, international reinsurers’ reduction in capacity played a pivotal role in the liability crisis.

From those lessons learned in the late 80s and early 90s, Bermuda emerged as an alternative to international reinsurers, and the Class of 1993 was set up.
