Berkshire Hathaway has elected Thomas Murphy to its board of directors, filling the position left vacant by David Gottesman, who died on September 28.

Murphy has served as partner at Crestview, a New York-based private equity firm he co-founded in 2004.

The executive launched Crestview after a stint at Goldman Sachs, where he was the co-founder and head of the financial sponsors group.
