This year has been pivotal for the Florida homeowners' market, with two special sessions, a tumultuous reinsurance environment, a near-Category 5 hurricane, insolvencies and ratings downgrades and several insurers limiting new business or exiting the state.

The year got off to a weak start with downgrades from Demotech following Q4 results, and the market only became more and more constrained as insurers took profitability hits from increased litigation and attempted to price the market accurately.
