Winter Storm Elliott losses ‘nowhere near’ Uri claims: modelers

Cat modeling experts for now agree that Winter Storm Elliott will be “nowhere near” the record-setting loss of the Texas storm Uri last year, although getting a more accurate sense of how big Elliott’s loss is will take time.

BMS senior meteorologist Andrew Siffert said the latest US winter storm will likely be retained for most insurance companies, rather than becoming a reinsurance event, as its losses will be “nowhere near” Uri’s $15bn estimated cost.
