M&A premium highs of 2021 ‘short lived’ after 2022 deal slowdown: Gallagher

The “very high” premiums charged for M&A insurance at the end of 2021 have proved “short lived” after a slowdown in dealmaking in 2022 led to insurers competing over less business, according to a report from Gallagher.

Gallagher said a year of macroeconomic uncertainty in 2022 – precipitated by the war in Ukraine – proved a “barrier” to M&A deals, leading to a reduction in M&A activity and associated insurance buying.
