CNA P&C unit books 93.7% Q4 combined ratio as Elliott pushes cat losses up 90%

CNA Financial’s P&C unit reported a Q4 2022 combined ratio of 93.7% as pre-tax catastrophe losses rose by $36mn to $76mn, primarily driven by Winter Storm Elliott.

Gross written premium (GWP) growth in the P&C unit continued to decelerate, with top-line income for the P&C unit (excluding third-party captives) rising by 8% to $2.7bn.
