United Insurance Holdings hikes Ian losses by $500mn to $1.54bn

United Insurance Holdings significantly increased its gross losses from Hurricane Ian to $1.54bn from a preliminary estimate of $1bn, as it said it had fully exhausted its personal lines reinsurance cover on the event, rendering its personal lines carrier insolvent.

The Floridian previously said it had only around $72mn of reinsurance left on its personal lines treaty, although it had more extensive commercial coverage remaining.
