Social inflation could be causing losses to surpass general inflation levels by 2%-3% per year, according to a recent study from the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) and Insurance Information Institute.

Published in a paper titled “Social Inflation and Loss Development”, the results were based on the analysis of paid loss and severity data for commercial auto liability between 2012 and 2021.
