Axis Q1 GWP down 9.6% following property cat and aviation reinsurance exits

Axis Capital’s Q1 top line declined 9.6% as the carrier’s reinsurance gross written premiums (GWP) fell 26% following its exit from catastrophe and property lines in June 2022 and from the aviation business, effective January 1, 2023.

The decrease was also driven by non-renewals of some marine business in Q1, as well as declines in some specialty lines, including liability and accident and health, which were partially offset by an increase in credit and surety.
