In America, there are several weight/health management companies, with the present market size close to $150bn and expected to reach $300bn by 2030. WeightWatchers is a key participant in the marketplace and its pitch has always been essentially something like: eat your broccoli, count your food points and exercise. That has pretty much remained the message for decades. Until now.

In 2021, weight loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy were approved for diabetes, and soon doctors started prescribing them. Things progressed and several internet pharmacies are now willing to dole out these medicines without much oversight.
