FIGA markets $600mn muni bonds to cover insolvent carrier claims

As a sign of mounting pressure on the Florida homeowners’ insurance market, the Florida Insurance Guaranty Association (FIGA) is selling $600mn of municipal bonds to back-stop insurance claims against insolvent carriers.

Media reports state that it is the first time since 1993 following Hurricane Andrew the association is selling these types of bonds.
