Severe weather losses in the first half of 2023 surpassed $26bn, making it one of the costliest periods since 2010, according to BMS.

The broker said that severe weather loss activity was at “near record levels”, with only 2011 surpassing the tally this year, when two major tornadoes pushed severe weather claims in the first half to $30bn.
