Travelers secured a new $500mn windstorm reinsurance treaty in the mid-year renewal, as the company was hit by $1.48bn of catastrophe losses during the quarter.

This compared with $746mn in the prior-year period.

The new $500mn hurricane coverage attaches in excess of $1.75bn and provides partial coverage across a $1bn layer expiring at $2.75bn.
