The Hartford has been “overwhelmed” with higher loss cost trends in its personal auto business so far this year, though it is also achieving good rate increases, according to CEO Christopher Swift.

The executive told analysts on the carrier’s Q2 conference call: “Our judgments turned out to be too light, as we're halfway through the year.
