US storms push global nat cat losses to $50bn over H1: Swiss Re

US thunderstorms in H1 drove global insured losses from nat cats to $50bn, their highest level since 2011, according to Swiss Re.

A series of thunderstorms, or severe convective storms (SCS), which hit the US over the first six months of 2023, accounted for 68% of global insured nat cat losses, further highlighting the impact of secondary perils, Swiss Re said.
