NHC adds Idalia tropical storm warnings for Georgia and South Carolina

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has implemented storm surge warnings for Altamaha Sound, Georgia, northward to South Santee River, South Carolina, and issued a tropical storm watch from South Santee River northward to Surf City in North Carolina.

The latest public advisory warned that Hurricane Idalia is strengthening, with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph, making it a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson wind scale.
