British Columbia’s summer 2023 wildfires have resulted in over C$720mn ($523.6mn) in insured losses, making them BC’s most costly insured event on record and the tenth costliest in Canada’s history, according to preliminary estimates from Catastrophe Indices and Quantification Inc (CatIQ).

The numbers were made public on Tuesday by the Insurance Bureau of Canada.
