Kemper expects Q3 reserve charge of $78mn due to PIP claims in Florida

Auto insurer Kemper has estimated unfavorable prior-year reserve development of $78mn in Q3 2023, largely associated with personal injury protection (PIP) in Florida.

The company expects a net loss for the quarter of between $140mn-$150mn and a net operating loss in the range of $25mn-$35mn, according to a preliminary earnings release.
