The 2023 North Atlantic hurricane season was active, with an accumulated cyclone energy (ACE) index 20% above the 1991-2020 climate norm, according to Tropical Storm Risk (TSR).

The season featured 20 named storms, seven hurricanes, three intense hurricanes and an ACE index of 146.

Forecasts initially suggested North Atlantic hurricane activity in 2023 would be about 25%-30% below the 1991-2020 norm.
